Chronic Kidney Disease Treatment in Voorhees, NJ

Comprehensive staging, management, and progression-slowing care for chronic kidney disease — from incidentally discovered Stage 2 CKD through advanced Stage 4–5 planning for dialysis or transplant.

What is chronic kidney disease?

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the gradual loss of kidney function over months or years, defined by either a reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR) or markers of kidney damage such as albuminuria. CKD is staged from 1 to 5 based on GFR and is one of the strongest predictors of cardiovascular events.

Early CKD often has no symptoms. Most patients are identified through routine bloodwork — an elevated creatinine, a reduced eGFR, or a positive urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio. The earlier CKD is recognized and managed, the more options the patient has.

How Dr. Kottarathara approaches CKD

Each new CKD patient receives a structured first-visit workup: cause attribution (diabetic, hypertensive, glomerular, structural, or mixed), staging, cardiovascular risk profiling, and a written progression plan. Where appropriate, evidence-based therapies — RAAS blockade, SGLT2 inhibitors, finerenone, lifestyle and metabolic optimization — are layered to slow GFR decline.

  • Stage-specific surveillance schedules with quarterly labs and annual imaging
  • Vascular access planning starts early at Stage 4 to avoid emergent catheter placement
  • Transplant referral workup initiated when indicated, in coordination with regional transplant centers
  • Coordinated care with primary care, cardiology, endocrinology, and dietetics
